BNP has alleged that Awami League supporters have attacked activists of their Belkuchi, Daulatpur and Enayetpur units, who were headed to a wayside rally scheduled to be addressed by the party chief during her road march to Chapainababganj. Chief of the Belkuchi unit of the party's labour wing, Sramik Dal, Keramat Ali told bdnews24.com on Tuesday, "BNP activists of Belkuchi, Daulatpur and Enayetpur set out for Sirajganj Sadar on human haulers and buses around 10.30am."
Pro-Awami League henchmen led by livestock minister's son Mithu Biswas and Jubo League leader Milon attacked their convoy at Kandapara intersection, college intersection, Mukundagati Bazaar and Chala intersection, he alleged.
They stopped the BNP activists from going further and manhandled them. Belkuchi Sramik Dal organising secretary Abdul Alim, BNP's Daulatpur union vice president Abul Hossain Akalia and a number of others were injured in the scuffle, the BNP leader added.
However, Belkuchi police chief Mostafiz Rahman said he had only heard about a chaos at Chala intersection and sent a team there.
Fazlur Rahman, general secretary of Belkuchi upazila Awami League, claimed, "These are isolated incidents and no Awami League activist was involved."
