Trading at the country's premier bourse on the week's second day has started amidst fluctuations with the general index gaining only 16 points in the first one and half hour of trade. The Dhaka Stock Exchange general index stood at 5093.14 gaining 0.32 percent at 12.30am on Monday. Shares worth Tk 1.16 billion have changed hands with prices of 112 issues rising, 97 declining and eight remaining unchanged.
Traffic at Motijheel came to a halt again after retail investors staged a street demonstration protesting the steep fall in share prices on Sunday. The benchmark index lost 231.65 points or 4.36 percent to stand at 5077.12 points.
Last week, the index shed 237 points to stand at 5308.79 points at close on Thursday.
