Chittagong, Oct 22 (bdnews24.com)?The authorities of the Chittagong Medical College have shut down the college and suspended all political activities following the death of a student injured in an alleged attack by Bangladesh Chhatra League, the student wing of ruling Awami League. "The decisions were taken in an emergency meeting of the academic council early Saturday," the college's principal, Selim Mohammad Jahangir, told bdnews24.com.
He said that the decision was taken from the fear that the death could trigger violence.
The students have been asked to leave the dormitories by 7am on Saturday.
"They have started vacating the dormitories," he said.
A third-year student of the dental surgery department, Mohammad Abidur Rahman, was injured in an attack reportedly carried out by Chhatra League activists. He died on Friday night.
The academic council sat in the meeting after the death created tension in the campus.
