HC questions legality of mobile courts

Dhaka, Oct 19 (bdnews24.com) ? The High Court has issued a rule on the government asking why executive magistrates-headed mobile courts should not be declared illegal.

The law and home secretaries, capital's developer RAJUK's chairman, executive magistrate Mohammad Shahidul Islam and its officer-in-charge, Dhaka District Magistrate and Mohammadpur police chief have been made respondents of the rule issued on Wednesday.

The bench of justices Mirza Hussain Haider and Anwarul Haque ordered them to come up with their responses within four weeks.

The rule was issued following a writ petition filed by a managing director of a real estate developer.

Aesthetic Properties MD Kamruzzaman Khan, who had been sentenced to one month in jail on Sep 14 for violating building code, filed the petition on Sep 19, two days after he was released on bail.
